Top Ten Tuesday #19 – Favorite Book Characters of 2018 (so far)

Happy Tuesday Nerds,

This weekly meme is hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s topic is “Best Books I’ve Read in 2018 (so far)”. Sadly, I already posted something similar last April, Top Ten Best Reads of 2018 (So Far), and though I’ve read books I really liked since then, they won’t reach ten in numbers. So I thought I’d twist the topic a bit. Like ten least favorite books of 2018. But then, I’ve already posted Ten Underwhelming Reads and Ten Books I considered DNF’ing in the past two months. So yeah, I’m out of  topic now.

But after some deep serious, very serious, thinking, I came up with “Favorite Book Characters of 2018”. Sadly, I only got 8. These characters are from books I’ve read this year and those books aren’t necessarily published this year. So basically, these characters are new favorites. Also, I didn’t include the ones from my rereads…

∴∴Eight Favorite Characters of 2018∴∴

(Click the title of the books to see my review)

1.) Kvothe in Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss

coverKvothe is literally a legend in Patrick Rothfuss’ world. He even goes by many names, which I won’t spoil here because they tell his stories. There’s actually nothing to dislike about him as a character. He’s flawed, which is very important. He’s strong and wise. I love how he gets out of things, the way he handles everything that life throws at him. Also he’s a wizard, he can play the lute and he’s red-haired.

Seriously, what’s not to like? Lol.

2.) Auri from Slow Regards of Silent Things (Kingkiller Chronicles)

22739835

A young woman and a former student who hides in passages beneath the University where Kvothe is studying. She has many issues, obviously. But she’s adorable, lively and her characters shows the soft side of Kvothe’s character and I loved it. 🙂

3.) Amari from Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

35917072

Amari isn’t really the main protagonist in this book, but she’s one of the main characters. She’s a princess and sister of the Main Hero. The main Heroine was awesome too but Amari is SO MUCH better. Her character showed the most development and it was a good development. She was strong enough to stand up for what she wants which was also the right thing even though it means turning her back to the life she’d grown up in. And damn, she faced the consequences with flying colors. I’m hoping to see her shine even more in Book 2.

4.) Eelyn from Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

34726469One of the most badass characters I’ve had the honor to read. Though I must admit, at first, I was worried this girl would end up annoying because she was TOO badass. She was raised as a viking warrior. But no. Eelyn underwent such great character development that showed herself as not just the warrior everyone sees.

She’s simply amazing. 🙂

5.) Simon from Simon Vs. by Becky Albertalli

19547856

Of course, Simon is in my list. I really regret that I didn’t read this book sooner, I would’ve met Simon earlier. He’s just so adorable and I wanna keep him. Even the Simon on the Film Adaptation, which I just watched, was amazing.

Simon made it to my list of my all-time favorite characters.

6.) Ove from A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

18774964

It’s just so easy to fall in love with Ove though he was this typical old guy who’s always pissed at everything. You know what I’m talking about, but just as we always end up loving all the elders around us, no matter how uptight they are, I couldn’t help but love Ove as I read his story.

I even cried few times while reading the novel.

7.) Prince Elian from To Kill A Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

34499221Prince Elian is a Siren Killer… And his current mission is to kill the Prince’ Bane, Lira who is a Siren and eventually became the woman he fell in love with. So why did I love him? He’s swoony. Really. I just love how he talks to Lira, looks at her and love her. Also I like the way he treats his crew. 🙂

P.S. HE is Savage. He and Lira both.

8.) Alosa in Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller

36682619This book is book 2 in a duology and I swear in its predecessor, Alosa, the MC, is not very likeable. She was actually annoying. She’s badass but she was too full of herself. But in book 2 she was back as a reformed character. Still badass, but better as a person. (though she’s not a 100% person) The author truly gave us, the readers, a well-developed character. 🙂

So that’s it guys. My eight new favorite characters from the books I read this year. Are you familiar with any of them? Or have you read the books they’re in? What do you think of them? Do we agree? It’s okay if we’re not.

Let’s Chat anyway,

  1. I’ve only read the first book, so I am familiar with Kvothe and Auri
I forgot there is actually a book about Auri, haven’t read that one yet and I still have to read the 2nd book…😅
I really like Auri and Kvothe grew on me after a while, at times I thought he was such a dumbwit 😂
Sky in the deep sounds very interesting! Should get my hands on that one too! Awesome post, Lili! 🌹

    1. The book about Auri is entirely plotless and short,. And honestly it’s the kind of book I’d rate 2 stars..But Im biased so I gave it more stars. and the writer said so that that is his worst book.. hehe
…thank you… I really liked Sky in the deep. I breezed through it. 🙂 and it’s standalone which is rare nowadays.

  3. I also looved Amari as a character even though she wasn’t the main character! And I completely agree with you on her development and I also hope to see even more of her in Children of virtue and vengeance.
