5 Books I’m So Scared to Read and Why

Hi Blisses,

These are not horror books. I feel like I need to clear that thing up first. And no, I didn’t misuse the word, I’m really scared to read the books I’m about to share. It’s just that at times, for some reasons, I find some books too scary to read. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to read them, I’m just scared to do so. I do believe I’m not the only one who feels this way sometimes but still I feel so coward for giving in to fear and worry (lol) and often miss good books.

I’ll share my reason for each book and hopefully nobody shoot arrows at me for judging these books before reading them, especially if it’s their favorite book. 🙂 🙂

And now, let’s get on the list…

1.) The Wicked King by Holly Black (Folk of the Air #2)

I love Holly Black and The Cruel Prince (book 1 in the series). But since I loved it, everything that happened in it is imprinted on my mind, along with the emotions it gave me. The emotions that the characters gave me especially Cardan. Cardan was the cruel prince and he’s the wicked king now. And oh my God, I’m so scared to see what he’s gonna do this time. Worse, I know he has valid reasons to be not just cruel to Jude, but to be wicked. I don’t think I can handle that. If you’ve read The Cruel Prince, you know what I’m talking about. And if you’ve read this book, tell me, is my fear OK?

2.) The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Somebody shoot me now for not reading this book yet. But you guys, the hype surrounding this book is overwhelming. Too overwhelming. I know the message is important and I’m all for it but I can’t help but wonder about the other factors of the book. I’m all for the message. I love seeing books and films that tackle such important issues but it’s not just the message that I look for in a book. There’s the character. What if I end up not liking Starr? The writing style? What if the writing style is not for me? What if I don’t agree with some things that happen in the book? How would I rate this book in the future?

REASON: The Hype and the uncertainty whether I will like the other elements in the book

3.) All Sarah J. Maas’ Books

Just like THUG, the hype surrounding Maas’ books is too overwhelming, but that’s not exactly why I can’t bring myself to read her books, even though I own some of them. The thing that bothers me lies in the Romance aspect. I’m not a fan of romantic plots or subplots that changes the love interest somewhere in the middle of the book or series. I also dislike reading love triangles. In ACOTAR, I know I’ll root for Taemlin before Rhysand comes and it will be hard for me to like Rhysand no matter how awful Taemlin would be (yeah, something is wrong with me) And don’t even let me start with Throne of Glass. The Romance there…

4.) Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli (Creekwood #2)

I loved Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, a lot, so I want to keep on reading the Creekwood Series but the next book features Leah. I already met Leah in Simon vs. but she’s not my favorite character. Sometimes, I do find her okay, but most of the times, I don’t get her. I find her too indifferent sometimes. So I’m scared to get on with the series reading about Leah. I’m thinking I should just wait for another book about any of the characters from Creekwood.

5.) Luna and the Lie by Mariana Zapata

Mariana Zapata is by far my favorite slow-burn romance author. I discovered her last year and I’ve already read 5 of her books. And not just read, Reread. Can I be honest how many times I’ve read her books?
The Wall of Winnipeg: 4 times, From Lukov with Love: 3 times, Kulti: 3 times.
It’s no secret I’m a fast reader, that I can read an entire book in one sitting while having maybe a lunch break. That’s why it’s possible for me to reread books whenever I want to and I love Zapata’s books so much I’ve been rereading her books lately, BUT her latest book, Luna and the Lie has been getting not-so-good reviews. Comments like ‘this one doesn’t have the charm her other books have’. That’s not a good thing. Some reviews even say: the plot is the combination of the plots of her other books. I don’t think I’ll like that. So can’t read this book in a fear that it’ll ruin my love for the author. The bad reviews have made me feel this way.
