Couple Goals in Books (according to someone who swore off marriage)

Valentine’s day is just around the corner and so this topic for Top Ten Tuesday hosted by Jana @ThatArtsyReaderGirl is perfect. But since I’m a total rebel, I changed it a bit.

Personally, I dread February every year. To those who don’t know, I’m single and just like what my subtitle said, I swore off marriage. Maybe ‘swore off’ is a bit exaggerated but I’ve been single for almost 9 years now and still don’t have a plan on having a relationship. This is not normal for any 26-year old, people around me think so and I understand that. So I don’t mind being asked about my nonexistent love life. But in February the questions get crazier and I’m sure you can imagine it. I feel burdened by Valentines’ Day.

But thankfully, I have books and fictional couples that are endearing, inspiring and romantic even for me. In short, #COUPLEGOALS. I think if, and that’s a BIG IF, if I ever jump into a relationship, I’d love to have the kind of LOVE these fictional couples share with each other. That said, in my list, you won’t find couples like Jude and Cardan of The Cruel Prince. Don’t get me wrong I love those two, I ship them, but  I don’t think I’d want a romantic relationship like theirs. I can’t handle that. Haha.

1.) Inej Ghafa and Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows Duology)

They know each other’s strengths and weaknesses but accept them and support each other. But most importantly, they try overcoming their weaknesses not only for themselves but for each other too. Remember that scene in the bathroom in Crooked Kingdom? (*sniff, sniff*)

2.) Jesper Fahey and Wylan Van Eck (Six of Crows Duology)

Okay, at first, the romance isn’t obvious because Jesper is naturally sarcastic and such a flirt but it’s obvious these two are off to something romantic. And oh God, they didn’t disappoint. I can’t explain Jesper and Wylan without giving spoilers so I’m sharing one of their conversations in the duology.

“Jes, I’ve thought about this-“
“Thought of me? Late at night? What was I wearing?”
“I’ve thought about your powers,” Wylan said, cheeks flushing pinker.

And another one, because I can’t help myself.

“What do you like?”
“Music. Numbers. Equations. They’re not like words. They … they don’t get mixed up.”
“If only you could talk to girls in equations.” 
There was a long silence, and then, eyes trained on the notch they’d created in the link, Wylan said, “Just girls?”
Jesper restrained a grin. “No. Not just girls.” 

3.) Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley (Harry Potter)

Yes, I ship these two. It’s really great to see two opposite falling for each other. And they started as friends, no romantic notions at all.

4.) Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley (Harry Potter)

This couple is too underrated. I do understand people wanting Harry with Hermione, what a power couple they’d be, right? But Ginny is a bright witch too. She belongs to Harry and their relationship is really inspiring. They’re very honest to each other and Ginny is really, really an understanding girlfriend. Remember when Harry wanted to break up with her? Jesus, Ginny remained despite all Harry’s drama.

5.) Evelyn Hugo and her Soulmate (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo)

I can’t mention a name because it’ll be a spoiler. I know Evelyn Hugo’s life is not really ideal and no, I will never want her life but her romance is another story. It’s heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. They literally went through tests of time and wow, just wow. YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK, or maybe read my review HERE. It’ll convince you, I hope.

6.) Simon Spier and Blue. (Simon and the Homo Sapien’s Agenda)

Because Simon is willing to do everything to protect Blue’s identity when Blue isn’t ready to come out yet and Blue becomes ready when Simon needed him to be. THIS is LOVE.

7.) Sebastian St. Vincent and Evangeline ‘Evie’ Jenner (Devil in Winter)

Because Sebastian, an infamous rake, made such a huge turn in his personality for Evie, a wallflower. I wouldn’t call it change, Evie did NOT change Sebastian, she just made the good in him comes out, so Sebastian stops believing the worst in himself. THIS, I adore this.

8.) Alosa and Riden (Daughter of the Siren Queen)

I love Alosa and Riden in book 1 but more in book 2. Less banters between them but their relationship is better. Alosa is still her badass self but she softens to Riden. Riden, on the other hand, just let her be who she is – a badass siren and pirate. I especially love that Riden never steals the spotlight from Alosa. He lets her shine simply because it’s Alosa’s destiny to shine.

9.) Carswell Thorne & Cress (The Lunar Chronicles)

Again the opposites. Usually, I don’t like the bad boy fall in love with the nice girl trope. Because it’s just so unrealistic but with Carswell & Cress, I really saw how their romance developed. And even when they already had feelings to each other, they didn’t jump into romance right away. They didn’t rush it because they knew they have other things to do first. For me, that’s one responsible relationship.

10.) Thomas Creswell and Audrey Rose (Stalking Jack the Ripper)

This is truly #Goals. Thomas and Audrey are partners in crime partners in solving crimes. Who wouldn’t want a romance where your man or your woman is working with you. And I liked that Thomas is so supportive of Audrey even though their job is not really for women during the Victorian era.
