Top 10 All-Time Favorite Novels (Top 5 Tuesday #26)

Hi Blisses,

Don’t be confused, Shanah from The Bionic Bookworm is still hosting Top FIVE Tuesday. It’s just that the topic for this week is too hard that top 5 won’t do. It won’t. hehe. In fact, an expression of gratitude should be in order for Shanah for bending the rules and making this week Top 10.

Thank you Shanah. But I must admit even with ten, it’s hard. Hehe. I swear, I had to redo my list for at least 5 times before I feel contented. In the end, I decided to just list the ones I’ve read in the past THREE years. So there won’t be Harry Potter in my list. Also no Narnia, LOTR, Pride and Prejudice, etc. I also tried listing two in each genre that I like. Gosh it was so hard.

But let’s begin.

FANTASY

1.) Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo

Would you find me exaggerating if I say I tear up every time I remember this series. I remember Kaz and his issue of not touching other people. I remember Inej and her painful past. I remember that f*cking bathroom scene in Crooked Kingdom. I remember Wylan and Jesper and their interactions (happy tears) I remember Matthias and Nina and…

2.) Daughter of Smoke and Bones Series by Laini Taylor

Guys if you haven’t read this series yet, please do. I don’t think I’ve ever read an extremely bad review on this series or on any of Laini Taylor’s books. It’s because of her writing. It’s ART. If there’s one single word I can use to describe her writing, it’s ART. That’s not even an official adjective but it is art. Please read her works.

YA CONTEMPORARY

3.) A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi

I’m not so into YA contemporary. If you look at the list of the books I’ve read in years, you won’t find more than 5 in this genre in each year and that says a lot because I read 150-200 books/year. But this book. THIS BOOK made me fall in love with YA Contemporary again. It’s about this teenage muslim girl who wears hijab and whose family is always moving town so she’s always in new school. The story is pretty much obvious but wow. I  was blown away by this.

4.) Simon Vs. The Homo Sapien Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Simon is the most adorable. I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I do. And even though I’m definitely straight, I found Simon’s ordeals and struggles very relatable. This is definitely a feel-good read too because when I was reading Simon Vs. I couldn’t help smiling. Heck, I was quietly cheering for Simon all throughout the book. So if you’re looking for a feel-good book, especially this Pride Month, go get this book.

FICTION / ADULT

5.) The Help by Kathryn Stokett

There are books that make your heart happy and then there are those that open your eyes, mind and soul. The Help is one of the latter. This book opened my eyes about discrimination. When I read it, it was as if I’ve never known discrimination before. I cried a lot. Like A lot. I will never EVER forget this book.

6.) The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This book has everything I don’t want in a book. It has cheating, all the kinds of cheating that’s known to mankind. Not just cheating, there a number of other things I really don’t like and yet… Just read my review please. I  think it’s one of the best book reviews I’ve ever written (in my opinion. hehe). So please read it.

7.) The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata

Oh my God. I’ve only read this book last year and I’ve read it six times already. I’m not lying. I love it so much. The slow-burn romance is just so perfect. God I wanna read it again, right now.

8.) The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

It’s so cliché I Love it. It’s because it has all the cliches I love: hate-to-love trope, office romance, rivals, etc. And Josh Templeman is so adorable. Ugh, I want to have my own Josh.

HISTORICAL ROMANCE

9.) Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas

If you have time, you can check my 2017 Goodreads Reading Challenge and then you’ll see that almost 40% of what I’ve read that year was Historical Romance. And Devil in Winter, I can say is one of the Best ones. I don’t really have any words except after reading it, I wish the story never ends.

10.) The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

I discovered Tessa Dare last year and oh God, I felt stupid for not reading her books sooner. In the Duchess Deal, I found one of the most hilarious male and female lead. Especially the Male lead, his sense of humour is in different level. I love him so much.

So there you have it guys, My Ten All-Time Favorite Novels. I was tempted to do 15, to be honest but well, I succeeded at choosing just ten. 🙂
