Remember this scene from Infinity War?
Well, Captain America is so me while trying to stop July from coming. But just as Thanos won, July won. And just like Thanos, July is inevitable. It really does feel like someone snapped his fingers and just like that, July is here. It’s second half of the year and yes, I AM FREAKING OUT !!!
I’ve been doing this tag since 2017 and I’m really glad Shanah from Bionic Bookworm tagged me and reminded me to do this again this year. Though I would need to try really hard to answer every question because, *deep sigh* just so you know, since January I’ve been through a couple of long hiatuses due to slumps. I’ve only read 56 books and added nothing to my novels but editing. Ugh! This is why I’m freaking out. But anyway, let’s just get on with this.
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019
A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahere Mafi
Surprise. Surprise. A YA Contemporary, my least favorite genre. Falling in love with this book was a huge surprise. We read this for our Diverse Divers Book Club and I remember gushing about it nonstop on Goodreads. And needless to say, this brings back my love for YA Contemporary so don’t be surprised if you see other YA contemporary as you read this post.
2. Favorite sequel you’ve read so far in 2019
The only sequel I’ve read this year is Archenemies by Marissa Meyer, book 2 of the Renegades series. And though it wasn’t perfect, as much as favorite sequels go, it’s good enough. Besides it was one of my anticipated reads before it came out last quarter of last year.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.
Ahm, there’s plenty actually and there are different reasons why I still haven’t read these books yet but that’s for another post.
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
Would you believe me if I say none? Hope you do because that’s the truth.
5. Biggest disappointment
This isn’t really the biggest disappointment, I mean I still rated it 3 stars and wouldn’t say this is a bad book. This is still a good read but my expectation was really high that it felt lacking when I was done with it. Can you blame me though? This book is about a school for con artists. Like, how cool is that? The concept is really cool, the premise is so promising but somehow, I don’t think it reached it’s biggest potential.
6. Biggest surprise
Another YA Contemporary but that’s not what surprised me about this book. You see, I prefer my reads with romance and I usually enjoy it a little lesser if the plot includes no romance at all. I enjoy it even more if romance is the side-genre. I want romance but Radio Silence focused on platonic love and surprisingly, I loved it. I wasn’t expecting that. It’s kinda refreshing too. Aside from that the book itself is really well-written and the story tugged at my heart. If you guys have read this book, let’s chat.
7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)
Mr. Ben Galley. he’s the author of Heart of Stone which I reviewed just yesterday as a part of a Blog Tour. I really found Ben’s writing so artistic and I can’t wait to read more of his works.
8. Newest fictional crush
Ethan Vaughn from Sledgehammer
He’s not just my new fictional crush, he’s my new book boyfriend. He is definitely my ideal man, though unfortunately, I know he will never be real. It is impossible that a man like him exist in the world we’re living in. But anyway, I highly recommend this book. This is a part of a series but each book can be read as standalone which is a good thing because I wasn’t a fan of the others.
You can read my review here.
9. Newest favourite character
Task, from The Heart of Stone. He’s a golem and… please kindly read my review.
10. Book that made you cry
Again Radio Silence. I don’t know how to explain it without giving away the story but this book made me cry.
11. Book that made you happy
I know, I know it’s not really a new book and I’ve read this a hundred times already but it’s not really the book itself that made me happy, it’s the fact that I’m now a fan of audiobook because of Alice in Wonderland. I wasn’t really a fan of audiobook guys. I tried so many times listening before but nuh-ah. But I was in a long bus ride last week and I was so bored. Nothing in my phone interest me so I tried listening to an audiobook for a change. And turned out, Alice in wonderland was the perfect choice. I felt like I was with her in wonderland as I was listening. It was a perfect experience.
12. Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation You’ve seen this year
Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy
I think the adaptation was really well done.
13.) Favorite Blog Post you’ve published this year
I don’t have one. Like I said I’ve been through long hiatuses.
14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
There’s none. First of all, I stopped buying physical books this year. It’s because I’m a minimalist now and though books make me happy and wasn’t supposed to be one of the things I stop buying or acquiring, I know they won’t stay with me forever. As most of you know, I don’t have a plan of getting married and will just travel the world for the rest of my life when I reach the age of 30. That’s 3 years from now. I decided to just buy e-books. I did receive books, last week especially for my birthday, but there’s none that really standout as beautiful.
15. What are some of the books that you need to read by the end of the year?
Are you kidding me with this question? I don’t even know where to start. Can I just say The Bible? I read the Bible every year and I’m still in Genesis right now. It’s July already. Hehe.
There you have it guys. I don’t know if you’ve already done this tag but I’m tagging:
And everyone who wants to do it. But tag me so I see your post easily. Now let’s chat.
