5 Popular Books From 2019 I Might Read (or Not)

Hyped books are very dangerous books to pick up because whether we, readers, like it or not, we automatically expect much from them. That’s why I rarely read a hyped book and when I do, a long time has already passed since it’s published. That said, there are a lot of hyped books from last year that I haven’t read yet, and to be honest some of them, I’m not planning to read.

In this post, I will share five of last year’s hyped books that I haven’t read yet. I will also share if I will read them and if not, the reason why. By the way, this post is my take for Top 5 Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Shanah from Bionic Book Worm. This week’s topic is actually TOP 5 SERIES I WANT TO START but last week, I posted something similar, so instead I based my post today from last week’s topic which is Popular Books I Haven’t Read Yet. Now, here are 5 popular books from 2019 I haven’t read yet and my verdict if I will read it or not…

1.) Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Publication Date: March 2019

Daisy Jone& The Six is actually the name of the band that plays a big role in the story. The band is well-known in the late seventies but no one knows what made them disband. This book reveals that, including the behind the scenes of the band’s life back then. And Daisy Jones is at the center of it all.

VERDICT: I will read it. The reason I haven’t read this one yet is because I’ve only read one written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and it was The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn Hugo sets the bar so high, I’m quite afraid Daisy Jones will disappoint me. But I’m sure, one of these days, I’ll have some courage to read it. Taylor Jenkins Reid’s writing is so good to pass. Here’s my review of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo if you want to read it.

2.) The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Publication Date: February 2019

The Silent Patient features Alicia who once had a perfect life until one night she mysteriously shots her husband five times in the face. Now, she’s the silent patient and catches interest from the public, including Theo, a criminal psychotherapist.

VERDICT: PASS. The hype is actually not the only reason why I haven’t read this one yet. Another reason is I kind of have an idea of the entire plot, of what the reveals might be. I read a spoilery review recently and I was right. And I knew cheating would play a big role in the plot and I hate cheating in my reads.

3.) Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
Publication: October 2019

Ninth House is Leigh Bardugo’s first Adult Fantasy and is set in our current world instead of some alternate fictional world. Ninth House is about Alex Stern who gets in Yale, through some mysterious benefactors. She has no idea why but she’s tasked to find out about some secret societies in Yale. Of course, she finds out some sinister things.

VERDICT: Of course, I will read this one. It’s written by Queen Leigh. But I won’t be reading it soon, maybe when the next book in the series comes out.

4.) The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Publication: February 2019

To be honest, I don’t fully understand what this book is about but I know it’s good. All I know is it’s diverse and with LGBTQ characters. There’s also a queen and a lady-in-waiting tasked to keep her safe. Really, that’s all I know.

VERDICT: I will read it. Knowing little about the plot only makes me curious how the story will unfold. I think it’s going to be complicated and amazing. The only reason I haven’t read it yet is because I want a physical copy. I want to touch it while reading.

5.) On The Come Up by Angie Thomas
Publication: February 2019

From the author of The Hate U Give, On The Come Up is about 16-year-old Bri who wants to be a rapper. One time she poured all her frustration into her first song which goes viral for wrong reasons. Bri, then, finds herself in a controversy.

VERDICT: I will read it. I think this book will have a place in my heart. It’s easy to guess that Bri’s story is powerful, even important, that I know I need to read it one day.

There you have it Blisses. These books are really hyped when they came out, I mean even before they’re published and even now months after they’re published. I once avoided them but hopefully, not anymore. Hehe
