5 Rom-Com Novels to Read During Quarantine

Hi Blisses,

Maybe some of you are not in a community quarantine anymore so this post is already late. But I know a lot of people are still in quarantine like me. Our government, Philippine government, extended our community quarantine again, making our quarantine two months in total. It’s not even certain yet if it will be lifted on May 15. The situation where I am is getting worse and I’m equally bored and anxious.

I can’t be the only person feeling this way. That’s why in this post, I’m sharing 5 rom-com novels I enjoyed during quarantine and hopefully, you’ll enjoy reading them too. Aside from enjoyment, I can speak from my own experience that reading (even watching) Rom-Com is good for our mental health, which is very important these days. So I hope this list helps.

In no particular order…

1.) The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

“When I signed up for this honeymoon, I had no idea it would involve so much nudity…”

— Christina Lauren (The Unhoneymooners)

The Unhoneymooners is about Olive and Ethan who aren’t fond of each other but they often see each other because their siblings are getting married. And when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning except Olive and Ethan, they have no choice but to set aside their hatred for each other and grab the all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii that their siblings should’ve been enjoying. Then of course, that’s when all the fun things happen. What are the chances that in their honeymoon, they’ll see people that they know, making it more difficult for them to pretend. (MY REVIEW)

2.) Boss Man Bridegroom by Meghan Quinn

Boss Man Bridegroom is for me, the funniest among this list. The heroine, Charlee, is the most vibrant and quirkiest character I know. She loves organization and planners and you know, things as such. On the other hand, the hero, Rath, is grumpy and I can say, minimalist. When he’s in need of a new assistant, Charlee is highly recommended. The first part of this book is especially funny because of how dedicated Charlee is in peeling Rath’s exterior to see his soft interior and she does that by forcing Rath gets into her habits — planners, different color of pens and sticky notes everyday…Gosh it’s so funny. I can still imagine brooding Rath and enthusiastic Charlee cheering their pens before they start the day. She also made Rath talks to plants. Hahaha. But aside from the funny scenes, Charlee’s positive attitude in life is infectious. Now, imagine the things that happens why they end up getting fake engagement. It’s simply hilarious. (MY REVIEW)

3.) Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Red, White and Royal Blue is so witty. I love the banter between Alex and Henry. Being the son of the President of America and British prince, respectively, they’re expected to have a public-friendly relationship, but alas, they don’t like each other. Fun things begin when they have to pretend as friends for the sake of publicity, and of course, thing get worse when they fell in love. But setting aside the political aspect of the plot, Henry and Alex made me smile a lot. They warmed my heart and put a big smile on my face. Their text messages are so funny. (MY REVIEW)

4.) Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

Undercover Bromance is second in Bromance Book Club Series and honestly, I loved the first book more than Undercover Bromance. I rated book 1, 5 stars and book 2, only 4 stars. But since this is a list of Rom-Coms, book 2 is more fitting. Don’t get me wrong, book 1 is also hilarious but book 2 is more hilarious. It’s because of Braden Mack, the hero. He is actually the founder of Bromance Book Club and also one of the reasons why book 1 is funny. So of course, his own book is more hilarious. I laughed at every scene where the chicken is involved or mentioned. Hahaha. The heroine, Liv, lives in a farm and there are some funny scenes there. (MY REVIEW)

5.) Well Met by Jen DeLuca

Well Met by Jen DeLuca is low-key hilarious. The heroine, Emily, is new to town but soon she found herself a part of the local Ren Faire. The problem is Simon, the hero, who’s in charge of the Faire, doesn’t seem to like her. Emily and Simon’s banter are quirky. Whenever they’re in the same room, they’re throwing daggers with their eyes and when they talk, it’s always an argument. I can’t really blame Simon to be infuriated. Emily’s conspiracy theories about Shakespeare will annoy Shakespeare’s fans. Hehe. But the funniest parts of Well Met happens in the faire itself. When Simon becomes a pirate and Emily, a wench. Suddenly, they’re flirty and one may wonder if they’re just being true to their characters. This is such a fun read. (MY REVIEW)

There you have it Blisses. I read all these books in the past few weeks during quarantine and they all made me happy.

At the moment I‘m just reading a lot of Middlegrade because the books are so whimsical and make me so happy. I do have a romcom in the cue though. Have you read The Flatshare by Beth O‘Leary? 🙂

I love a good rom-com and i have been consistently in the mood for it since quarantine! These are all fantastic recs. The only one not on my radar is Boss Man Bridegroom but definitely adding it now! (Also, hello from the PH too! So discouraged about the ECQ situation – they just keep extending without making long term plans.)

To be honest, among all these books in my list, Boss Man Bridegroom is the funniest. It’s not perfect, I only rated it 4 stars, but it’s the funniest. I hope you have lots of LOL moments reading it. :):)

And yeah, hopefully, ECQ ends soon. I’m so bored and my anxiety is too much. Stay safe.

P.S. Turns out, I’m not following you yet. Sorry. I will now. 🙂

Oooh, you’ve definitely sold it to me! I need something laugh-out-loud during this time. I’ve been reaching for more romance lately, I’ve noticed, and not the dark kind.

I’m sorry to hear about your anxiety – hope you can hang in there until ECQ ends. I hear the curve is flattening already but also that there might be a possible extension until 30. I’m going stir-crazy already. Hope you stay safe and sane too.

(No problem! I’ve discovered your blog in Stephen’s wrap-up post and followed you from there. :D)

Hope you love Boss Man bridegroom. It’s not perfect but it’s funny. 😊

To be honest, I don’t listen, read or watch news anymore to protect my sanity. But yeah, my aunt also said it might be extended. 😭 You know the worst, I’m not at home. I’m stuck at my aunt’s house since March 15. I was visiting when the quarantine was enforced in Cavite. It was night when we learned about it and it was effective midnight so I had no way to go home. I’m stuck here using someone elses things. That adds to my frustration. 😔

Glad you saw my blog there. Stephen is a dear. We’ve been friends online for few years now. He’s one of my first blogger friends. And we’re both aspiring authors. 💖

I’m so sorry to hear that 😔 I can imagine how frustrating that can be on top of the whole situation. Whenever I stay over at relatives’ places for just a night or so, I’m already uneasy and careful with myself so I won’t impose on them, so can’t imagine what it’s like to do that for ~2 months now. I really hope they’ll declare GCQ soon.

Oooh, good luck to you both! 🥰 Is there anything you’re currently working on that you also post about? No pressure, I’m just curious 🙂 I know Stephen posts updates about his WIPs sometimes.

Yeah, it’s really hard especially that there are two toddlers here. I cant even write. It’s a miracle, I can still blog. And no, I don’t post anything about my writing yet. My plan was to self-host my blog last month and then I’ll start posting about my writings. But well, Covid19 happen.

Oh, sorry to hear that. 😦 I’m happy you’re still able to read and blog despite everything. A number of bloggers I follow have had a harder time reading and producing content during this time. Let’s hang on—it’s modified ECQ now, so hopefully they’ll be more lax with the checkpoints.
