Hahaha… I’m kidding Shalini, but really I love Robbie’s books so much.

EXCERPT:

One morning the following week, Maxine felt a gentle nudge as she came in from recess. She looked up. A girl with blonde hair handed her a small folded note. Her name, “Maxine James,” was printed neatly on the front.

Surprised, Maxine glanced up, but the girl just shrugged. She didn’t seem to know what the note was about either.

Maxine unfolded the note carefully so she wouldn’t tear the paper. She hoped it wasn’t nasty, but something about the handwriting on the front told her that this was something special.

Maxine folded the note back up and slipped it into her pocket. She bit her lip. Who were these kids, and what did they want with her?

She was baffled but curious. And when the lunch bell rang, she hurried toward the library, keeping her eyes peeled for a boy in green.

REVIEW:

I this is the most relatable book I’ve read this year. And that’s saying a lot. You probably think I am exaggerating. I am not. The main character, Maxene, has the cutest name and starts with M, just like my real name. Hehe. (My real name is Maricel Gasga, not a secret but I think only few knows) But no, it’s not Maxene’s name I found so relatable, but her personality in general. She’s quirky and nerdy. Different. She doesn’t cope with other kid’s idea of cool though she tried getting along with them, she always ends up having ‘Maxene Moments’. Which you will understand more when you read the book.

I like Maxene because despite her being different and kids around her make her feel like she doesn’t belong still, she tries to interact with them. That shows her heart. And when her favorite teacher disappears without so much as goodbye? She really did her best to know what happened because she knew something is wrong. By the way, I love Miss Thompson, Maxene’s teacher and her Aunt Izzie.

Anyway, good thing Maxene met The Kooky Club. Aaaaw, really, I’m kinda jealous. I hope there was a Kooky club at my school when I was a kid. This book had me reminisced my younger years and I might’ve teared up a bit. I was always different. You see, here in my country, books are not a thing. Seriously, I only have 1 friend who reads and I have PLENTY of friends. Thank God for social media, I discovered other Filipinos who read books.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading the meetings of the Kooky Club and I think it would be great if Robbie make this one a series. i’d be happy to read more of the adventures of the kooky club members. 🙂

I’m glad that Robbie chose to write about kids like Maxene and Daniel(from Robbie’s other book) because our younger generations should be aware. Kids these days should also be aware that there are certain adventures that don’t have dragons and fairies, which mean they can do it in real life. And they can do it while helping others.
