Happy Tuesday Guys,
My second post today. My first was also a meme called Top Five Tuesday and go here, if you wanna read my Top Five Favorite Opening Lines. But enough of the other meme, i’m here for another TTT, a meme currently hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s topic is “Books I Disliked/Hated but Am Really Glad I Read (maybe just for bragging rights)” but I kinda twist it very slightly.
The following list consists of…
BOOKS I READ THAT I FOUND UNDERWHELMING/DISAPPOINTING/UNSATISFYING:
(1-3) HYPED BOOKS that left me Disappointed
These books I don’t totally dislike, they’re just not what I expected them to be.
The Belles, I read last month and found it as boring and infuriating. Though the writing was okay, flowery language and almost poetic, it was so overdone that I was eye-rolling all the the time and was tempted to skip pages or worse DNF it. But I finished it and was left disappointed. With The Night Circus, same with The Belles, the language was flowery, the descriptions are superb, it was beautiful BUT I think the author focused too much on the language and setting the Setting, that the plot was left as mediocre. While with Everless, I found it cliche. Tropey even. Though, again, it was an okay book, I was expecting more from it.
*Click their titles to see my reviews:
1.) The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton
2.) The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
3.) Everless by Sara Holland
(4-6) Underwhelming SEQUELS
These books I found lacking compared to their predecessors. Like I LOVED Book 1 so much then Book 2 turned out to be just Okay-Books.
I loved The Wrath and the Dawn and rated it perfect 5, so I was so excited reading the sequel, The Rose and the Dagger. Like I said it was okay but not great. The conflicts were resolved so easily and there’s even a death I wasn’t expecting. 😦 Fire is book 2 in Kristin Cashore’s Graceling Series. But no matter how much I loved Graceling, Fire just didn’t do it for me. It’s lacking in every way. The characters, the plot, the badassness. Sorry 😦 For Contemporary readers, Emma Chase is queen. Her Tangled Series is the BEST. But I found Twisted so underwhelming. It still features the story of Kate and Drew, the amazing couple from Book 1 which is Tangled, only this time it’s in Kate’s POV. And though this book made me laugh and sigh dreamily for few times, it wasn’t something I’d recommend. I didn’t like it at all. 😦
(7-9) A SERIES I didn’t know why I read
I bought this dystopian series because of their covers. They’re just gorgeous in my shelf. But the story was just disappointing. This series is made up of every YA books you read. It’s tropey. It’s filled with cliches. And it’s VERY SLOW. I was always hoping the plot picks up, or the Romance finally ignite. Ugh!.. Everything’s slow. I read this last 2016 and I still remember how disappointed I was. Why did I read the whole series? that time I still have the rule to never quit on any book/series I read. Anyway, I’ll never recommend this series. SORRY. 😦
(10) ARC I thought I’d Like
The Oddling Prince
Look at the cover. It’s beyond gorgeous. And the description was very promising. It’s about two brothers and I love Bromance, and stories with loyalty but this book is just NOT FOR ME.
I was so disappointed.
My Review HERE.
So that’s it for this week guys. Have you read any of these books or are they on your TBR?
Let’s chat below… and leave your links. 🙂
Happy reading,
I think I made it through half of book 2 in the matched series. I do own them all. I never got the desire to pick them up to read again.

Have to agree with you on Everless and Oddling Prince! Everless was flat and kind of creepy and we only made it a few pages into Oddling Prince before throwing it to the DNF pile.
Here is our Everless review. https://fictionnochaser.com/2018/03/13/everless-money-really-is-the-answer/

Yeah, I almost DNF Oddling Prince as well but I still want to write a review for it so I kept reading though it was a real struggle…

Ohh I’m so sad you didn’t enjoy The Night Circus! And I totally agree with you on the Matched series, I gave up after the first book, because it was full of clichés, and I disliked the writing.

Ugh!!!, I really regret finishing the Matched series. It was a total waste of time..
And I can’t say I didn’t enjoy The Night Circus.. The writing was colorful and aesthetic but after reading it, I just realized that the plot wasn’t all that amazing… 🙂 🙂 I know I’m in Minority with this. hehe..
Thanks for visiting..

OMG! I forgot about The Matched series. The first book was so interesting and the second and third book were like.. what? I really don’t know why I ever finished it. haha.
Totally agree about Everless! I really disliked that book and I also agree about Fire!

Guess most of us agree on the matched series 😂
I did love the night circus. One of my favourite books!
Few years ago I read a book called “the miniaturist” by Jessie Barton. Now I could be biased as the plot takes place in my country but I do wonder if you have read it? ☺

I enjoyed the writing of Night circus so it isn’t really on my hated books list… Just disappointed with the overall plot. 🙂 🙂 And Matched series…. yeah, didn’t really like that one.
If Im not mistaken The Miniaturist is the one adapted to a show or was it a movie? The one with the miniature house? I’ve watched the trailer of the adaptation but ahvent read the book. Is it good?

They made a series?? This is new to me, lol. I had no idea! 😂 I really liked the book because there is a plottwist in it I did not see coming and I love it when a book (or movie) manages to surprise me 🤗

Everless has some appeal too and fact is I’m excited to read book 2 to see more of Liam and JUles with Romance… I want to see how it will work for both of them.

Yes, Book 2 definitely has the potential to be really great.

I’ve only read Everless, The Belles and Matched from your list and only the first book in the series for the last one. I totally agree on the Belles. It was overhyped and didn’t really live up to expectations. There were a few good moments but I didn’t like the MC and that is key in a book for me.
I did enjoy Everless mostly because it felt quite fairy tale to me but it didn’t make a lasting impression.
Matched I really didn’t like. Barely made it through the first book never mind the series

The Belles is indeed overhyped and same here, I couldn’t connect with the character… Matched Series… Goodness, everyone seems agree with us… most comments here says the same thing about it.
I agree. Everless is fairytale-ish… Im excited to read more of Liam and Jules with Romance in the next book…

I love what you said about the Night Circus! I personally loved it and didn’t mind the flowery language because I thought it fit the setting, but I totally agree the plot was lacking

Yeah the language was great, it wasn’t overdone as The Belles.. (ooops sorry The Belles) But Night Circus’ plot was lacking…

Thanks Pri… Hope you like Night Circus… The language was amazing…. It was the plot I had a little problem. hehe

Yes, me too for the night circus !! Though I havent finished it .. which I couldn’t as I got lost in the setting and I didn’t knew what was happening anymore xD it was like, too much POV happening at once .. (Though at the time, I didn’t knew it was hyped as I wasnt on here yet..)
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, the author gave too much in the setting rather than the main plot. The plot was just okay anyway… Nothing extravagant. I only read it because it was hyped.. hehe.. I was curious.

Hope you get to love it when you read it (if you will). I didn’t. It somehow reminds me of Night Circus though the premise of its story was good. I’ll keep quiet now.. hehe…
