5 Perfect Summer Reads On My TBR

Hi Blisses,

#BeachRead #summerread #books

Summer is gone, at least here in the Philippines. But I know summer is only beginning for most of my friends here. I didn’t get to enjoy my summer due to lockdowns so I almost skip this week’s Top 5 Tuesday. I mean, I have nothing good to say about summer. But I’ve been skipping it for weeks, I feel I need a comeback with this meme. So here I am. I’m just going to imagine that I’m having summer with you all.

By the way, Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah from Bionic Book Worm. And for this week, obviously, we’re sharing five summer reads. I decided to share books that are still on my TBR and that, for me, are perfect as summer reads.

Here they are…

1.) Beach Read by Emily Henry

Beach Read is a newly-published contemporary romance about two authors, January and Augustus, who are polar opposites as writers. She is a romance writer and he is a literary writer. She writes happy ending, he kills his characters. But for the next three months, they’re living in neighboring beach houses and both are suffering with writer’s block. And for some reasons, they ended up helping each other in some ways.

The title screams summer so it’s perfect. Aside from that, I love stories about authors. I’m excited to see how are they going to help each other and eventually fall in love.

2.) The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

The Proposal is second in The Wedding Date series. I read the first book and liked it. I really don’t have any reason why I haven’t picked up the other books in the series yet. Anyway, The Proposal is about another writer, only Nikole is a freelance writer. Nikole’s actor boyfriend suddenly proposed to her in a Dodgers game, even though they’ve only been dating for five months. In her predicament, she was rescued by Carlos. Of course, that’s where the love story begins.

The cover looks summer-y and it is set in LA so that makes this book more perfect summer read. The way the protagonists meet is very interesting and I’m so excited to see what happens next.

3.) Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

I’ve read another book by Morgan Matson. It wasn’t my favorite but that doesn’t mean I won’t try another book by her again. So I chose one from her books that I know I will love. I chose Second Chance Summer, which looks like a sweet fluffy read. It’s about Taylor who is a middle child and never felt like she stood out, thanks to her exceptional siblings. But when her dad gets ill, her family decided to spend summer in their old lake house. There, she is confronted with people she thought she will never see again, like her old friends and first crush.
Yep, definitely a fluffy read. I love summer love stories and first crushes turns into something more. I’ll definitely enjoy this one.

4.) Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West

Another young adult romance and a perfect summer read. Just look at the cover. The protagonist, Kate Bailey, has hard time talking to other people. But because of her best friend, Alana, she ends up as the host of their high school podcast and giving advices to her listeners is one of her job. Then her podcast gets a call from a guy, asking advice about his unnamed crush. Kate is sure her caller is Diego and that the unnamed crush is Alana. But soon Kate starts to develop feelings for him…
The conflict interest me more than it should. Hehe. Secret crush is one of the tropes I like in romance. That said, I think there will be a reveal that’s pretty predictable. It’s always the same in this kind of stories. I don’t mind though, I just wish there’s less teenage dramas.

5.) Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett

I’ve read Jenn Bennett’s Alex, Approximately and enjoyed it so much. And I think I’ll enjoy Starry Eyes as well. It’s about Zorie and Lennon who are best friends-turn-best enemies last year. But then their group camping goes south and Zorie and Lennon find themselves stranded in the wilderness, alone.

This is intriguing. I love best friends-turn-enemies and of course, will turn into lovers. There will be lots of angst and banters. I’m so looking forward to this one. And I love to see how Zorie and Lennon will survive the wilderness and fall in love in the process.

There you have it, Blisses – 5 perfect summer reads on my TBR. I’m set to read all these soon and if you guys have some recommendation, let me know.
